Three different fringe musicians operating on the same elevated plane convene to
craft an eerie set of grotty wide lens soundscapes. Palestine Vainio Thielemans,
named for its three participants, sees a perfect confluence of dark ambient moods,
sinister drones and minimal free improvisation, grand in scope but intimate in
delivery, across 6 distinct pieces amounting to a pitch black suite. Charlemagne
Palestine’s organ and vocals, as well as Mika Vainio’s gently piercing electronics,
flit from booming to brooding, while Eric Thielemans sense for percussion evades the
simply rhythmic.
